Making the switch from WordPress to Blogger

I never thought I would say this, but I just made the switch from a self-hosted WordPress to Blogger. Why? Because it’s free.

I am very satisfied with WordPress, I have nothing against it – I just want to break free from paying hosting providers, such as iPage, for spotty service.

Last month, iPage really let me down. To sum things up briefly, my entire root directory was hacked and iPage froze both my hosting and DNS services until I removed the malware myself. In the meantime, I could not redirect my domains to explain to my visitors what had happened and my domains were helplessly left advertising for iPage. All 10 of my sites were down for 41 hours. I had to contact support multiple times, through multiple channels and even offer the solution myself, which was to delete everything! A total loss. Needless to say, I’ll be firing iPage ASAP. This is why I am moving as many of my domains to free services that are known for 100% uptime.

If you are looking to migrate your WordPress self-hosted site to a free Blogger Google-hosted site, export an XML of your WordPress site via Dashboard > Tools > Export > All Posts and upload the XML file it gives you to this free WordPress to Blogger Converter.

Once you’ve downloaded the converted XML file for Blogger, upload it via Settings > Blog Tools > Import Blog. That’s it!

Best of luck and happy blogging!
